63rd Annual Session of UNCSW
From March 9th – 15th, CUPE attended the 63rd annual session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW). This year, the focus was on social programs and public services as the keys to fighting inequality. Creating public services that are inclusive and accessible to everyone will be transformative to the lives of women and girls, especially those who experience poverty, racism, ableism, and other forms of oppression. Our Local’s Vice-President, Veriline Howe, proudly represented CUPE 2191 members at the session. Veriline was in the company of 180 union women from over 42 countries and took part in discussions about the uneven impact of privatization on women and the need to end gender-based violence.
